State jobless rate begins 2018 still stuck at 4.5 percent

January unemployment rate sets new record low nearly 40,000 fewer unemployed 0 By Elizabeth Lauten

The state added 10,500 jobs over the month and 150,000 over the year, paralleling national gains. Charleston County boasts the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 4.0 percent. The department says the state's rate of unemployment has been below 4 percent for 26 consecutive months, which is the longest stretch since the current methodology was put in place in 1976.

Preliminary estimates reported by the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) and Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) show a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.5 percent in January.

More people are working in Illinois according to new data released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES).

The rate ticked down slightly from January 2017, when the rate was 3.1 percent.

House Intel Republicans Stop Russia Investigation, Decide No Collusion
At one point, Republicans considered erecting a wall in the committee's office to separate GOP and Democratic aides. Tom Rooney (R-FL), admitted last night that the committee had "gone off the rails".

According to a report issued Monday by the state Department of Labor, the number of unemployed job-seekers in ME declined by 2,500 over the past year to 21,000.

The state unemployment rate is tied for the fourth lowest rate in the country. Out of a labor force of 10,152,000, there were 397,000 Floridians without jobs for the first month of 2018. Alaska had the highest jobless rate, at 7.3 percent. Since December 2010, Florida businesses have created almost 1.5 million jobs, which includes more than 144,000 in the previous year.

There was a loss of 1,100 in trade, transportation and utilities jobs and a loss of 1,000 in the "other services" category.

The largest decline was in professional and business services, which lost 2,300 jobs. Many employers have said they're unable to add jobs because there is a lack of available talent with the right qualifications. Despite the monthly increase, government is little changed versus last January; total nonfarm employment overall is up 13,800 jobs versus last January.
