Amazon launches 'in-vehicle' delivery in 37 USA markets

The new service is available starting Tuesday to all Prime members through Amazon's Key app, but it only works with certain types of cars.

Perhaps this latest advancement in Amazon shipping will protect more people from porch pirates. Earlier this year, the company acquired Ring, which makes Wi-Fi-connected cameras and doorbells.

(AMZN) today announced that Amazon Key, the service that already enables in-home delivery and keyless guest access, now gives customers an option to receive deliveries inside their vehicle. Packages are placed in the vehicle's trunk or out of plain sight.

The company noted that with Amazon Key In-Car, Prime members with compatible vehicles can now have packages delivered inside their cars when parked in a publicly accessible area, typically at their home or workplace.

The service does not work with every vehicle, however, it's only available to customers with a Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC from 2015 or later with On-Star.

Customers can track when their vehicle was unlocked and relocked through the app, where they can also rate the experience. "This mix of auto and commerce is starting the next wave of innovation and we intend to be at the forefront".
