Britain's Prince Philip To Undergo Hip Operation

Admitted to Hospital for Planned Surgery on His Hip

Some media reports in the United Kingdom indicated that the timing of Prince Philip's hip replacement surgery was in preparation for the activities that will be involved in the royal wedding ceremony.

Prince Philip has undergone a "successful" hip operation and is recovering well, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The Duke of Edinburgh has undergone a successful hip replacement operation and is comfortable and in good spirits, Buckingham Palace has said.

Philip, the father to Queen Elizabeth II's four children, has missed several public events in recent weeks.

He retired from public life past year but has since appeared several times at royal engagements alongside Queen Elizabeth.

His condition came to light after his absence from the Easter service at Windsor was attributed to a hip problem.

Much of that activity has come to an end as age has taken its toll.

Also pardoned was Daniel Maher, who served five years stemming from an armed robbery of a San Jose auto parts store in 1994. Chhan was convicted of two counts of misdemeanor domestic violence in 2002 and served 364 days in jail.

It was founded in 1899 at the suggestion of the then-Prince of Wales, and has treated most senior members of the royal family, including the Queen, Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge. During Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in June 2012, he was hospitalized for a bladder infection.

The duke retired from official duties a year ago but has been seen in recent months driving his vehicle and attending some events with his family.

Clarence House announced in a statement on November 27 that Harry, 33, and Markle, 36, were engaged, writing "His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month".

A hip replacement completely rebuilds the hip joint.

Part of the pelvis is also hollowed out and fitted with a socket for the ball to move in.

Philip has been in generally good health for his age, but he was briefly hospitalised over Christmas in 2011 for angioplasty treatment of a blockage in his coronary arteries.
