Google's Gmail set to get a major update

Silicon Valley's finest all want the Pentagon's cloud contract, even if it's not a sensible idea

As we discovered yesterday, Google is expected to roll out a visually overhauled Gmail to users worldwide in the next few weeks.

An email from Google to G Suite administrators, acquired by The Verge, revealed that a new design and several new features are coming soon to Gmail.

Like we already caught wind of, the images also showcase Gmail's new Snooze functionality that allows you to dismiss emails from your inbox for a certain period of time - something that was first made popular with Inbox back in 2014. Google is providing three new layouts to choose from, including a default view that highlights attachments like documents and photos, a comfortable view that doesn't highlight attachments, and a compact view that increases the amount of messages you can see on a single page. Rather, Google is taking elements of the Material Design philosophy current in use in Android and applying it to Gmail, with new simplified icons, flatter visual design, and more emphasis on simplified, bold elements.

'GO GET IT DONE:' Trump To Take Another Look At TPP
The Trump Administration is still providing multi-billion dollar federal contracts to some of the largest outsourcers in America. Tariffs placed on USA automotive imports to China don't match the lesser tariffs placed on Chinese imports to the U.S.

Screenshots of the redesigned Gmail show that a smart reply feature for quickly answering emails without typing anything is on the way, as well as a snooze button for muting email threads in your inbox until you're ready to reply to them. Overall the design looked a lot more like the mobile app, and it's reasonable to assume that Gmail itself will be updated in a similar way.

Google also said that it will be moving Gmail Offline, a standalone Chrome app, to the web.

Google did not say when its update to Gmail may go live. "We need a bit more time to compose ourselves, so can't share anything yet-archive this for now, and we'll let you know when it's time to hit send". It could be announced at Google's I/O conference on May 8th.
