Hungary's Viktor Orban to make 'significant changes' in govt

Voting officially ended at 7pm

Initial results of the April 8 parliamentary elections show his nationalist right-wing Fidesz party receiving two-thirds of the 199-seat parliament, meaning it has the powers to change constitutional laws.

After a campaign centred on resistance to immigration and trumpeting a strong economy, near-complete results showed that Mr. Orban's Fidesz party snapped up nearly half the vote (48.8%).

"It's very clear that there are controversial topics in our cooperation", Steffen Seibert told reporters in Berlin on Monday, flagging disagreement especially over Hungary's response to the refugee crisis and its refusal to accept an European Union system to distribute migrants.

French National Front leader Marine Le Pen said Orban's victory was yet another rejection of "the change of values and the mass immigration extolled by the European Union". "Within those, we will do everything that serves the interests of the Hungarian people".

Orban claims that the opposition - collaborating with the United Nations, the European Union and wealthy philanthropist George Soros - wants to flood Hungary with mostly Muslim migrants, threatening its security and Christian identity.

How American alum Andre Ingram just became the NBA's best story
In his National Basketball Association debut Tuesday night, the 32-year old scored 19 points against the Houston Rockets . He provided a spark as the Lakers attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter, which ultimately fell short.

The mission also raised concerns about "hostile and intimidating campaign rhetoric, limited space for substantive debate and diminished voters' ability to make an informed choice", he said.

"This has happened and we believe we are mandated by this election to pass this law". It would force them to get government permits, their income received from overseas would be taxed and they could be banned from going nearer than eight kilometres from Hungary's borders, where asylum-seekers file claims.

Orban also said "favored relations" would continue with Poland and the German region of Bavaria, whose politicians came to Hungary to support his re-election campaign.

Chancellor Angela Merkel's response contrasted sharply with that of Seehofer, who as Bavarian prime minister was her chief antagonist during the migration crisis of 2015-2016.

According to the Orban government, Hungary will descend into chaos should it become an "immigrant country" like France or Belgium, with funds meant for Hungarian families or the country's underpriviledged Roma minority diverted to migrants, whose presence will weaken Hungary's security and increase the risk of terrorism. In the speeches the main emphasis was made on the cessation of immigration. "Thank you for the contribution to making political opinion on the Hungarian election".
