Scathing Comey interview provokes President Trump

ABC News is being slammed by some critics for a poorly produced interview with former FBI Director James Comey that aired on Sunday night after a massive editing job.

Trump fired Comey a year ago over his frustration around the handing of the Russian Federation investigation, which led to the appointment of the special counsel, Robert MuellerRobert Swan MuellerSasse: US should applaud choice of Mueller to lead Russian Federation probe MORE.

Comey addressed another recent personnel move - the dismissal of former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe only hours before his full law enforcement pension vested.

"Comey drafted the Crooked Hillary exoneration long before he talked to her (lied in Congress to Senator G)", Trump fired in an early morning tweet.

Comey's comments in an ABC News interview broadcast Sunday were nearly certain to escalate his war of words with the president.

Comey is embarking on a public rollout of his book, "A Higher Loyalty", which comes out Tuesday.

"The President, the press secretary, other spokespeople have called him a liar, a leaker, a political hack".

Comey's interview was produced by the beleaguered "20/20" news magazine, which in recent years has nearly entirely stopped doing hard news and instead largely focuses on mysterious murders, infidelity and even behind-the-scenes looks at other ABC programs, such as "Roseanne".

In his book, Comey takes direct aim at Trump's appearance, a particularly sensitive topic for the president, although a tactic he often employs himself when insulting others.

'The president doesn't get to decide who goes to jail, ' Comey protested.

Aguero recovering after surgery on his knee
Aguero tweeted: "Recovering from an arthroscopy on my knee". "Hopefully (he will be back) for the last games, if we need him, but especially for the World Cup".

"You can not have, as President of the United States, someone who does not reflect the values that I believe Republicans treasure and Democrats treasure and independents treasure", Comey said.

"What is the Justice Department doing to allow [Special Counsel Robert] Mueller to mess around, given that Comey was behind the creation of Mueller's [Russia] investigation to begin with?" he asked. "Values matter", Comey said. Comey said Trump's actions "tainted an institution that pursues the truth". "Not acceptable!" Trump said.

Indeed, Comey is far from the first person to notice that Trump rarely laughs.

"Everyone has forgotten his letter a few weeks before the elections that damaged Hillary", Kovalik told hosts Brian Becker and Walter Smolarek, referring to Comey's reopening of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server just a few days before the 2016 election.

"I think that in the case of Comey, in particular, he did not want Trump to be president, and so, there may have been some bias".

Daniels's interview contained a startling claim that she was threatened in a Las Vegas parking lot to keep quiet about her alleged affair with the future president. She asserted that Comey has "proven to be dishonest".

"I think it's possible".

In the interview, Mr Comey said that it is "possible, but I don't know" whether Russian Federation has evidence to back allegations about Mr Trump's Moscow trip.

Comey's book isn't just a political tell-all: It's an earnest, somewhat gloomy meditation on power and how he personally learned, by trial and error, what it takes to become a principled, effective leader. But he told ABC News that he believes there's evidence that the president obstructed justice and says he can't rule out that the Russians have compromising information on Trump.
