Uber plans public transit and auto rental app options

FTC: Uber Suffered Large Data Breach In 2016

For transit agencies, deploying via SDK will make mobile ticketing instantly available to an established user base with the intention of delivering a seamless experience to transfer to, or ride on, transit services.

Uber announced Wednesday that it will test a vehicle rental service in San Francisco, as well as a new way for users to pay for public transit rides through its app.

On the passenger side, Uber is adding safety features and getting more serious about background checks. Night time sharing will be an option. This lets you integrate with the emergency authorities.

As part of the major safety overhaul, riders will be able to designate up to five friends and family members as "trusted contacts" and share trip details of every ride.

Uber's new 911 Assistance service is now under testing mode and is being used in Denver. The project has been kick-started in the U.S. past year, and the company had extended this service to the United Kingdom last month. In the short term, this investment will create an enhanced, geographically searchable database to help emergency dispatchers more quickly connect callers to the correct 911 center.

She also said Uber's system has great potential, although she would like to see test results before passing judgment.

In other Uber news, the FTC says the company agrees to expand its proposed settlement over Uber hiding the data breach from customers.

'I can't change the past, but I can change the things that we do going forward, ' he said.

A year ago the company was fined $8.9 million by the state of Colorado for allowing people with serious criminal or motor vehicle offenses to work as drivers.

A company, which Uber would not identify, has been hired to continually check arrest data, and that also will begin in a few weeks, Uber said. "Once we feel solid about the product market fit, we'll be expanding nationally", Uber mobility product head Jahan Khanna said. Since most of these new features are under testing mode, they will introduce them very soon for the public.

Uber classifies its drivers as independent contractors, arguing they are in business for themselves and thus ineligible for traditional benefits like overtime, minimum wage protections, and health insurance. They are even spending millions of dollars for the same.
