#BREAKING: Shooting at Dixon High School; one in custody

'Things could have gone much worse': Former student is shot by officer during gunfire exchange at Dixon High School

Sauk Valley Media says Milby was recently expelled from the school.

One person has been shot in IL by the Police after that person opened fire on officers at Dixon High School, about 102 miles west of Chicago early Wednesday morning, according to Dixon City Manager Danny Langloss.

A "heroic" high school resource officer took down a campus shooter who opened fire inside a crowded gymnasium, authorities said Wednesday. The suspect refused to comply with the officer and allegedly opened fire. The officer, whose identity had not yet been released, was hailed as a hero for stopping the shooter.

When we contacted the Dixon Police Department, they said they could not confirm or deny the report.

President Trump slammed Scot Peterson as a coward for failing to confront shooting suspect Nikolas Cruz at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

The shooting happened in the gym, where seniors, whose last day of school was Friday, were gathered for graduation practice, City Administrator Danny Langloss said.

Facebook disabled 1.3B fake accounts in 6 months

All schools in the city about 80 miles (130 kilometers) west of Chicago have been placed on lockdown while the shooting is investigated.

A press conference on the incident may be held later today.

"I extend my deep gratitude to @DixonPolice, & the Officer on-site, for their swift action & for keeping our students & teachers safe", Kinzinger tweeted.

The students are being bused from The Armory to Al Morrison Baseball Field. Parents must show ID to pick up their kids.

Howell said the suspect fired several shots at the officer as he tried to get away, but the officer was not injured.

He was injured, but his wounds are not believed to be life-threatening, according to KCRG.
