Facebook Users Undeterred by Privacy Scandal

Cambridge Analytica and its UK parent SCL Elections Ltd on Wednesday said they would cease operations and begin bankruptcy proceedings

The results of the Reuters/Ipsos survey are a stark contrast to a recent survey done by the Ponemon Institute, a USA -based think tank, when it comes to Facebook and privacy.

She said: "The ICO has been investigating the SCL Group and Cambridge Analytica as part of a wider investigation into the use of personal data and analytics by political campaigns, social media companies and others".

The tool, Facebook said, will also enable the users to delete this information from their account, and turn off Facebook's ability to store it.

He filed a lawsuit against Cambridge Analytica under Britain's data protection act when he said he found out it collected data on him.

The UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has ordered Cambridge Analytica to hand a United States voter all personal information the company holds about him.

Facebook, which has over 2 billion monthly active users, depends on its users spending significant amounts of time on the service, which is roughly 90 percent supported by ad revenue.

'Free press makes for a stronger democracy'
In his message he said "A free press is essential for peace, justice and human rights for all". The World Press Freedom Day is being marked across the globe today.

Sixty-four percent of social media users in the US check Facebook at least once a day (44 percent check continuously throughout the day), according to a poll by Reuters in partnership with marketing analytics firm Ipsos of 2,194 social media users during the last week of April.

"I have yet to read an article that says a single person has been harmed by the breach", he said.

Here's what you need to know about the Cambridge Analytica and Facebook data siphoning fiasco. Only 16% reported that they use the site less, while 43% said that they have not changed their frequency of use. "Nobody's outraged on a visceral level". Facebook's earlier research of its user base revealed that people were not willing to pay for a platform which they believed would be always available for free.

Despite the scandal and the investigations user growth on Facebook does not seem to have been affected.

Although it's not entirely consistent with the previous question, roughly 78 percent said they knew how to change their Facebook privacy settings, while 22 percent said "no" or "don't know".

The company profited from a feature that meant apps could ask for permission to access your own data as well as the data of all your Facebook friends.
