Islamabad accident: U.S. diplomat released, case filed against embassy's security officer

Second Secretary of US Embassy Islamabad Chad Rex Ausburn hits motorcyclists near Parliament House

Victims are Nazakat Aslam Awan and Muhamad Waseem, residents of Islamabad.

The incident occurred Sunday night near Secretariat Chowk at the Constitution Avenue when the USA diplomat identified as Chad Rex Ausburn, Second Secretary at United States embassy in Islamabad crashed his vehicle, Toyota jeep (QN-374 ICT), into a motorcycle being ridden by two persons.

Yousuf said Monday security officer Taimur Iqbal was arrested after he "physically attempted" to stop police from taking the vehicle and its driver, Chad Auburn, to a police station.

On Sunday night, the American diplomat station in Islamabad rammed his vehicle into a bike in the capital city, injuring two riders. According to police, American diplomat had been taken into custody after the accident. The motorcyclists were shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital.

On April 7, authorities said, the defense attaché at the U.S. Embassy, Colonel Joseph Emanuel Hall, ran a red light on a main Islamabad road and collided with a motorcycle carrying two people.

The incident comes only weeks after a USA diplomat hit and killed a motorcyclist and injured another through rash driving in the federal capital. In a twitter message, Interior Minister of Pakistan Ahsan Iqbal said that a very tragic road accident incident involving U.S. diplomat in which visibly traffic law was violated resulting in death of a Pakistani citizen. A man was killed and another was injured in the accident.

In 2011, a Central Investigation Agency contractor Raymond Davis caused outrage throughout the country after he killed two Pakistani citizens when he hit a motorcycle in Lahore.
