Lawmakers are briefed on Trump ‘spy’ claim

Rudy Giuliani serves as Donald Trump's legal adviser but said he hasn't spoken to him in a couple of weeks

After a series of evolving pronouncements and significant posturing, lawmakers from both parties attended a pair of briefings on Thursday about the FBI's use of an informant during its investigation into connections between Russian actors and members of the Trump campaign.

There's no telling what kind of information was actually discussed in those meetings, but we do know that Democrat, Adam Schiff, the only Democrat allowed to go to that meeting, did come out and say there was absolutely nothing to confirm Trump's claims that there was a spy within his campaign.

SPYGATE could be one of the biggest political scandals in history!

Over the weekend, the president demanded the Department of Justice to start an investigation into the matter.

Here's a quick look at the controversy.

"I did a great service to this country by firing James Comey", Trump said.

Hans von Spakovsky, senior legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation, says there is still not one shred of evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

The FBI at the time was investigating whether anyone in Trump's campaign worked with Russian Federation to help tip the election in Trump's favor.

Nunes, an ardent Trump supporter, had originally requested the information on an FBI source in the Russian Federation investigation.

But nobody has lied more or damaged the FBI's reputation more than America's dirtiest cop, as D.C. attorney Joe diGenova likes to call him. Halper reportedly met with Carter Page, George Papadopoulos, and Sam Clovis.

Trump ran with the quote, using it to bolster his argument he was spied on by the Obama administration. Some conservative outlets have identified him by name, however.

Trump fired Comey as the FBI investigated the Russian election interference, setting the stage for the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his wide-ranging inquiries.

Sen. Chuck Schumer of NY, the top Senate Democrat, continued to push Thursday morning for the first meeting to be scrapped altogether, calling Nunes a "known partisan" out to undermine Mueller's investigation. This appears to be the beginning of the current fight.

Trump continued to rail against law enforcement on Twitter on Thursday, repeating unsubstantiated claims that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had planted a spy in his campaign. "Did other Agencies SPY on Trump Campaign?'" Even Clapper, worlds dumbest former Intelligence Head, who has the problem of lying a lot, used the word SPY when describing the illegal activities!"

When that testimony became public on January 9, sources from Fusion GPS told NBC News that Simpson had misspoken in his testimony and the "human source" was actually just an Australian diplomat who once had drinks with Papadopoulos and not anyone within the Trump organization.

In his tweets, Trump also quoted Andrew Napolitano, a former New Jersey Superior Court judge and frequent Fox News commentator, saying that "it's clear that they had eyes and ears all over the Trump campaign". None of the men took questions from a contingent of reporters standing watch. It took place very early on, and long before the phony Russia Hoax became a "hot" Fake News story.

Trump has zeroed in on, and at times embellished, reports that a longtime USA government informant approached members of his campaign in a possible bid to glean intelligence on Russian efforts to sway the election. At the time, Trump claimed to be eager to sit down with Mueller.
