Man and child presumed dead in plane crash near Edenderry

Gardaí and emergency services are at the scene

Air crash investigators remained on the scene of a fatal light plane crash in Offaly on Monday, May 14.

The pilot, and a seven-year old boy were killed in the incident outside Clonbullogue yesterday afternoon.

A total of 16 parachutists made jumps from the plane before it came down in bog land on Sunday afternoon, killing the little boy and the experienced pilot. "There were two people on board, the pilot and a seven-year-old boy", he added.

However, an eyewitness told the Herald that, a short time later, he saw the plane flying low overhead.

16 parachutists had made their jumps moments earlier before the plane crashed on bogland with the man and boy on board.

It is noted that the flight took place on the territory of the parachute club, the causes of the crash are being investigated.

Separatists Fail To Elect Quim Torra As New Catalonia Leader
A German court last month dismissed the extradition request for Puigdemont on the rebellion allegations and released him on bail. Catalonia's pro-independence parties risk an election being automatically triggered if they don't form a government by May 22.

The plane was located about two kilometres from the airfield in bogland between Edenderry and Daingean.

Gardaí said last night that they would not be releasing the names of the victims until they were satisfied that all family members had been informed.

Meanwhile, another local resident Declan Burns (49) said he understood the plane had just dropped off the parachutists and was heading back to the airfield when something went terribly wrong and the plane - understood to be a Cessna Caravan - "just nose-dived".

The plane was partially submerged in the bog.

They were taken to Tullamore Regional Hospital where post mortem examinations will be carried out later today.

The crash is the latest light aircraft tragedy to strike Ireland.
