War veterans laying flowers on soldiers graves

Rolling Thunder will be at the Navy Memorial on Saturday, May 26th to host an annual wreath laying ceremony in conjunction with the Rolling Thunder Run. The event is free and open for all to attend. The parade route will be from Monroe Avenue and Lyon Street and ending at Veterans Memorial Park on Fulton Street and Sheldon Boulevard.

Farina American Legion Post 411 and Auxiliary will hold a Memorial Day ceremony in the Mini Park at the intersection of Madison and Chestnut (Route 37) streets in Farina. There will also be a free barbecue and games at noon. The parade will proceed to the Vermont Veterans' Home, where ceremonies will be held. Veterans who want to participate in this Grand March are requested to muster at 10:30 a.m. beneath the flag of their particular branch of the armed forces in the parking lot.

The Knights of Columbus has scheduled a Memorial Day Ceremony at 9 a.m. on Monday at the memorial in front of the Havelock Tourist and Event Center.

Memorial Day Program at Los Osos Valley Mortuary & Memorial Park: The program will begin with live music at 10:30 a.m. followed by a ceremony at 11 a.m. Con.

Representatives of VFW Post 912 and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 922 will then read the names of local soldiers killed while serving our country.

Attendees will be invited to place a flower on a ceremonial wreath in memory of a service member lost.

United States Air Force, retired, Col. Robin L. Schultze is guest speaker for the ceremony. Guest speakers will be retired Marine Capt. Vern Ellars; Eugene Monay, past commandant, Marine Corps League, Cape & Islands Detachment 955; and retired U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Walter von Hone.

There are numerous parades and ceremonies throughout Adams County that commemorate and honor our fallen Service members.

On Monday, Memorial Day the Veteran will meet at 8:00-8:15 the Maynard Community Hall to prepare for the days services.

In case of inclement weather, the Memorial Day Service will be held in Berryville's Barns of Rose Hill. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on May 28. Historians say it started during and immediately after the American Civil War, 1861-1865, which was fought over the enforced slavery of black people.

The Hastings Memorial Day parade will be hosted by American Legion Post 45 and will begin at 9 downtown Hastings on May 28.
