Movie producer Weinstein charged with rape, sex abuse

Harvey Weinstein turns himself in to police

Weinstein raised his eyebrows as he heard it.

Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has officially been charged with rape, sex abuse, criminal sex act and sexual misconduct for incidents involving two women, NY police say.

Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been charged in the USA with rape, sex abuse and other crimes against two women. Asked "what can you say?" he mildly shook his head and softly said "no".

CNN reported that prosecutors charged Weinstein with first and third-degree rape in one case and first-degree criminal sex act in another case. The criminal sex act charge is believed to stem from the 2004 incident involving Lucia Evans, who claims Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex during a casting call. The rape charge stems from an allegation by a woman who has not been publicly identified.

Detectives sent her back to meet Mr Weinstein in a hotel, wearing a wire.

Weinstein has previously denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex.

"At a certain point, you have to think about the greater good of humanity, of womankind", she told the magazine.

Evans confirmed to The New Yorker that she was pressing charges.

He said that a jury won't be convinced of Weinstein's guilt, "assuming we get 12 fair people who are not consumed by the movement that seems to have overtaken this case". "And I'll get to be an eye and so many other victims will get to look him square in the eye and just by being there, represent the fact that we did not want this".

NY just lost another of its greats with Tom Wolfe's passing
Three of his works were adapted into movies: The Right Stuff , Bonfire Of The Vanities and The Last American Hero . He laughed about his trademark "feistiness" in the book to CBS News and said, "Well, I just try to bring truth".

It's been almost eight months since accusations of rape, sex assault and harassment first surfaced against the 66-year-old Weinstein.

In 2015, Vance declined to prosecute Weinstein after model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez filed a complaint alleging that he groped her breasts, and the NYPD had her record a conversation with Weinstein that police felt corroborated her complaint. That investigation is in its preliminary stages.

The arrest comes months after the Times' initial report saying Weinstein sexually harassed multiple women, and since then dozens of women have also accused him and over a dozen said they were raped by him. Several actresses and models accused him of criminal sexual assaults, but numerous encounters happened too long ago for any prosecution.

McGowan talked about the terror of working in Hollywood after her alleged rape.

McGowan told the AP on Thursday that "the justice system has been something very elusive". Because it's all true. "He would hire private investigators, he would hire fancy lawyers to settle allegations", she said. However, the decision, which came to light in the New Yorker article, resulted in a backlash against Vance, who was accused by some of being too soft on a powerful individual, in an office that routinely prosecutes misdemeanor sex crimes with less evidence.

Police in Manhattan have also confirmed they had a credible rape allegation against Weinstein after Boardwalk Empire actress Paz de la Huerta accused him of raping her twice at her NY flat in late 2010.

The judge also issued a temporary order of protection. prohibiting Weinstein from contacting one of the alleged victims. Authorities in California and London also are investigating assault allegations. The allegations have ranged from inappropriate comments to harassment and even rape.

And many of Weinstein's accusers had signed non-disclosure agreements with him and/or the Weinstein Company after complaints were raised, making a delayed criminal prosecution of him more hard for authorities. The Weinstein Co. found success with Oscar winners "The Artist" and "The King's Speech".
