Novartis Paid More than $1 Million to Firm Linked to Trump Lawyer

Endpoints News

AT&T may have paid President Donald Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen's private firm up to $600,000 as part of a consulting contract, CNBC reports. Documents linked to by STAT show that a unit of the drug firm called Novartis Investment SARL made about four payments of almost $100,000 each to Essential Consultants on October 5, 2017, November 3, 2017, December 1, 2017, and January 5, 2018, totaling almost $400,000. AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson met with him during the transition and has visited the White House as the company has sought approval to absorb Time Warner. "The mere fact of Cohen's solicitation.to get payments from [these companies] sounds a lot like lobbying - and if that's the case he should have filed [the proper] disclosures", Holman added.

Public Citizen President Robert Weissman said Cohen's consulting work sounds more like pay-to-play lobbying.

Avenatti took to Twitter late Wednesday to point out the letter by Cohen's attorneys deftly leaves out any mention of Cohen's financial ties to Russian Federation.

According to STAT News, which interviewed a Novartis employee on the condition of anonymity, the relationship between Novartis and Cohen began in 2017 when the president's attorney "reached out to Novartis's then-chief executive officer Joe Jimenez, promising help gaining access to Trump and influential officials in the new administration".

Cohen's more recent notoriety stems from his role in paying $130,000 to porn star Stormy Daniels, who claims she had an affair with Trump in 2006.

One person with ties to the campaign described being approached by a top tier tech company after the election with an offer: They would pay this person $50,000 a month to make introductions to members of Trump's team.

Manger also said police were not aware of any prior issues between Snyder and the victims. A contractor's van remained parked outside of the home where the three were killed.

The Treasury Department's internal watchdog says it's investigating how detailed allegations about the banking records of President Donald Trump's personal lawyer became public. Under the Bank Secrecy Act, financial institutions must monitor their customers' activities and report suspicious transactions to the government.

Tuesday night, Michael Avenatti, Stormy Daniels' lawyer, went public with the results of an investigation he claimed provided details on transactions to and from Essential Consultants, the shell company Cohen set up in DE to pay Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet about the affair she says she had with Trump. But that information is supposed to remain confidential.

In a memo posted online Tuesday afternoon, Avenatti alleged that Cohen had received payments after the 2016 election from a company linked to Viktor Vekselberg, a Russian oligarch with close ties to the Kremlin, and from pharmaceutical giant Novartis, Korea Aerospace Industries and telecommunications conglomerate AT&T, among other things.

Avenatti, who has not disclosed where he got his information or released any documents, declined to comment on the probe.

A lawyer for Columbus Nova has said Russian businessman Vekselberg had nothing to do with the transaction, which Avenatti said amounted to $500,000.

Novartis admitted it made a costly mistake in making payments totaling almost $1.2 million to Cohen's firm.
