Robinson Cano's Suspension Wounds the Mariners, and His Hall of Fame Chances

Robinson Cano latest to play the 'I didn't know' card after testing positive for banned substance

Cano is under contract through the 2023 season, when he'll be nearly 41 years old, at $24 million each year, and if Seattle makes the playoffs this year he won't be eligible. In his career, Cano has hit 305 home runs in 2,037 games. Cano tested positive for Furosemide, a diuretic that can be used to mask performance-enhancing drugs.

Rodriguez and Cano would seem to have an even harder path to Cooperstown than Bonds and Clemens, because - like Rafael Palmeiro and Manny Ramirez - they were caught during the testing era and served a suspension for their decisions.

"For more than fifteen years, playing professional baseball has been the greatest honor and privilege of my life", Cano said. He's had five top-10 MVP finishes and has been considered one of the best, if not the best, second baseman in the game for more than a decade.

"The substance was given to me by a licensed doctor in the Dominican Republic to treat a medical ailment". He said he didn't realize it was banned. He also said he will accept the suspension, rather than exercise his right to an appeal if he hadn't already done so. However, he will lose salary - $11.85 million of his $24 million deal for 2018, according to ESPN's Darren Rovell - and is ineligible for the postseason and the All-Star Game.

SC Collegium To Reiterate Justice KM Joseph's Name For SC Elevation
Though Justice Chelameswar, who retires on June 22, wasn't present at the meeting, he backed reiteration of the name. It also argued that Justice Joseph's parent high court, the one in Kerala, was over-represented in the apex court.

The Mariners subsequently released a statement of their own, which read: "Robinson made a mistake. I apologize to my family, friends, fans, teammates and the Mariners organization".

Cano suffered a fractured fifth metacarpal in his right hand when he was struck by a pitch from Detroit's Blaine Hardy on Sunday.

"We love Robinson Cano".
