Vietnam concerned over tension in Gaza after USA embassy moved to Jerusalem

PE protesters join rage against Israel

Julius Malema, one of South Africa's representatives at the Pan-African Parliament, has slammed African governments which attended the opening of the United States embassy in Jerusalem on Monday.

"The IDF said it coordinated the transfer of eight truckloads of vital medical equipment through the Kerem Shalom crossing due to severe humanitarian conditions in the Hamas-controlled enclave, with hospitals struggling to treat Palestinians wounded in clashes on the Israel-Gaza border on Monday and Tuesday".

The stark difference between the realities of the two countries - Israel and Palestine - is nothing but a reminder of how the world is divided, and many countries have vested interests in keeping the divide alive.

Organisers say the Gaza protests are civilian actions, noting the absence of Israeli casualties, compared to 107 Palestinian dead and thousands of wounded.

But with the images of rifle-toting Israeli snipers facing off against seemingly unarmed protesters beamed around the world, the remarks by Hamas may do little to convince Israel's detractors, including the Palestinians. More than 2,700 people were injured, many by live ammunition.

"We call for a credible worldwide investigation into the crimes committed by the occupation", Arab League chief Ahmed Abul Gheit said at an extraordinary meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Cairo on Thursday to discuss the violence.

"Hamas is exclusively responsible for the events transpiring in and out of Gaza, and is accountable for all terrorist activity emanating from Gaza targeting Israeli civilians and Israeli sovereignty", the IDF said.

Jerusalem's status is perhaps the thorniest issue in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the USA embassy relocation infuriated the Palestinians.

Facebook suspends 'around 200' apps, reviewing misuse of data
And several of the US lawmakers often appeared to fail to grasp the technical details of Facebook's operations and data privacy. Zuckerberg's visit comes with a strict new European data protection law due to take effect on May 25.

But the start on Thursday of the holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims abstain from eating and drinking during daylight hours, could limit the scale of demonstrations. Israel and the United States claim the protests were engineered by Hamas, the militant group that controls Gaza.

It was the first nation to join the United States in making the move and formally recognizing the contested city as Israel's capital, and brought Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a list of prominent USA delegates.

While the Palestinian government called the Israeli crackdown a "terrible massacre", Israel denied accusations of using excessive force against the protesters, insisting the crackdown is justified to protect its border.

Speaking at a reception with Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales, Netanyahu said Israel had recorded "similar numbers" to those mentioned by Bardawil. The U.S. promised not to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, to keep the PLO office in Washington open and not cut aid to the Palestinians.

Israel considers the entire city its capital, while the Palestinians see east Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.

Palestinians seek East Jerusalem as the capital of a state they want to establish in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.
