Amazon wins rights to show Premier League soccer matches

Twitter

The e-commerce giant will show two full rounds of 20 soccer matches per season, starting in 2019 in a three-year deal.

That means from August next year, BT will be showing 52 live games per season with Sky Sports broadcasting 128 matches.

"There is huge appetite for the Premier League in Ireland and we are very pleased to have concluded this process which ensures more matches than ever before will be available live from 2019/20 onwards", said Premier League chief Richard Scudamore. The service costs £7.99 a month, or an annual subscription of £79 a year.

Oh, and a one-off fee of £69.99.

The deal underlines Amazon's ambition to take on traditional pay-TV broadcasters in the multi-billion dollar battle for sports rights.

Now, some four months on and following extended negotiations, a deal has been struck with Amazon and BT Sport.

Pescatore added that the award was "great news for BT, with its TV platform the only place where users can watch all the Premier League matches from 2019, thanks to its content relationships with Amazon and Sky - for Now TV".

You can do it the other way round to get that one-off cost down and avoid getting BT internet, but it will increase the monthly cost.

And then he sat out a weather delay that lasted just under 90 minutes, and he missed four putts under 7 feet the rest of the way. He missed a 3-foot birdie putt on the ninth hole, and then missed a birdie putt from 4 feet on the par-5 15th.

"We know that Sky Sports and BT Sport will continue to provide fantastic live-match broadcasts and programming for fans across the country, and we welcome Premier Sports as a new partner".

Of course, if you are already a Sky Sports customer these prices are liable to be negotiated, these prices are for getting all the packages from scratch.

20 matches per season from one Bank Holiday and one midweek fixture programme.

Amazon has made history by becoming the first tech company to buy rights to show Premier League games in the UK.

In Ireland, the League has concluded the sale of 233 live matches per season split into eight packages of rights, the same seven packages of rights as in the United Kingdom and an additional package of 33 Saturday 15:00 matches.

These two remaining packages of rights were specifically created to appeal to the internet giants such as Amazon, Netflix, Apple, Facebook and Google as online streaming continues to rise in popularity.

"When the Premier League was formed in 1992 nobody could have envisaged the scale of worldwide growth in the competition which exists now", Scudamore said.

"With Amazon's rival, this could well be the last time that both BT and Sky own the live Premier League rights in the United Kingdom, with Richard Scudamore keen to attract more online players to the table".
