Anthony Bourdain's Mother Speaks About His Recent 'Dark Days' After Tragic Death

Anthony Bourdain has been found dead aged 61

Tapper: "I know people loved him because of the food and drink, but there are also a lot of us who, like, that was nearly beside the point".

Bourdain was a classically trained chef, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, and a successful chef and restaurateur in the New York City food scene.

At No. 1 was the paperback "updated edition" of "Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly", the hit 2000 memoir that transformed Bourdain from an obscure Manhattan bistro chef to a TV personality. He was staying at Le Chambard, a five-star hotel.

Gladys Bourdain, the mother of late chef Anthony Bourdain, has expressed total shock over his suicide last week at age 61. Inside, he found that Bourdain had hung himself in his bathroom.

"The case is closed", he told The Times.

"He knew the kitchen", the waiter recalled. "But we didn't think much of it". But concerns about his well-being escalated the next morning, when he didn't show up for his usual breakfast with Ripert. "Dried fruits, cold cuts, local cheese, fruit salad, butter, honey and a jar of Christine Ferber jam".

Traversing the globe meant visiting areas of conflict and also intense poverty, and Bourdain didn't shy away from either.

Just four months before the beloved chef died in his hotel room, he eerily spoke about death in an interview with People magazine.

Speisser was to show Bourdain around the market, starting at 10am. "But no, I'm quite sure I can't".

Whether he was reviewing food, sticking up for those who weren't able to do so themselves or even addressing the times he'd considered suicide, Bourdain's unique voice never wavered. It was 9:30am.

Éric wrote: "Anthony was my best friend".

Following the death of Anthony Bourdain, French authorities have released a statement with more details. He also added that a medical expert concluded no signs of violence on Bourdain's body.

In Season 4 of Parts Unknown, Bourdain explored the depths of despair involved in the heroin epidemic ravaging small towns and suburbs across the USA, with more than a little hard truth and on-camera vulnerability about his own demons. The prosecutor explained that it didn't appear as if Anthony had planned it; it appeared to be an "impulsive act".

Blood was drawn from the body, and results of screenings for drugs or other toxins will follow in coming days. There was no evidence of foul play in his death, a prosecutor said. "We haven't talked for a couple days".

He kept in touch with Bourdain after his release, he said.

"Although they're separated, she'll be in charge of whatever happens".

"It gave us a face to put with the name", Stelter said.

"We love and salute you".

The crew packed up and left the market.

"It's really too hard", she said. "He was brilliant and sharp and amusing", she said.

His 2010 follow-up, "Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook", scored fifth place.

"He was very quiet when not on camera, mostly sat by himself off set reading paperbacks".

There was exhaustion - and darkness. The cause of death was suicide.

Instead of joining the cruel chorus, Bourdain poured his support and money into then 88-year-old.

He had been a devoted student of jiujitsu.

"You actually don't really believe it".

"Tony's feijoada was incredible".

"The new celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon", he wrote.

He was incredibly popular with his fans. "He had no pretension, he had no interest in pretension, and it was one of the most compelling and endearing things about him". He struggled with heroin addiction, but eventually got cleaned up and started a family later in life. And I was like, 'All right, man, we're going to Popeye's'.

"We were high all the time, sneaking off to the walk-in refrigerator at every opportunity to "conceptualise".

Bourdain became an outspoken advocate for the #MeToo movement after Argento revealed she had been sexually assaulted by the movie producer Harvey Weinstein.

As trolls pounced, it was Bourdain who "came to my rescue", she recalled.

His 1999 New Yorker article, "Don't Eat Before Reading This", brought readers into the NY kitchens where Bourdain worked for years. "I looked at him in the eyes and said, this is something we will always be thankful for, Tony". "He was nothing but kind and a gentleman".
