China celebrates unity within Eurasian SCO bloc as G7 struggles with Trump

Membership to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will strengthen India’s relations with Central Asia

Prime Minister Modi is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping apart from holding meetings with various other participating leaders.

Meanwhile, on Day 1 of the Summit, PM Modi also held almost half a dozen bilateral meetings with leaders of other SCO countries, including with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan.

India said a year ago that China had not stuck to an agreement to share hydrological data, or scientific information on the movement, distribution and quality of water for the Brahmaputra river.

Citing Afghanistan as an "unfortunate example" of effect of terrorism, Modi said he hoped the fearless steps towards peace taken by President Ashraf Ghani will be respected by all in the region, apparently referring to a cease-fire announced by the Afghan leader for the Eid festival.

Noting that only 6 per cent of foreign tourists in India are from SCO countries, the prime minister said this can easily be doubled.

"I will be visiting Qingdao in China for the annual meeting of the Council of Heads of States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Our talks will add further vigour to the India-China friendship".

At the Ulleval stadium in Oslo, Norway, who are not qualified for the World Cup, took a fourth-minute through Joshua King. There was also anger and sadness at being unable to continue playing in the Champions League final.

"The Shanghai Spirit's focus on seeking common ground while setting aside differences and pursuing mutually beneficial cooperation has won widespread worldwide endorsement and support", the Chinese president said.

The two nations signed agreements Saturday on the export of non-Basmati varieties of rice from India and information sharing between China and India on the Brahmaputra river in flood season.

Trade, investment and development cooperation issues will also feature prominently at the SCO, Murphy said, given the climate of "rising anti-globalisation and strains on global multilateral economic institutions", stoked by Trump's nationalist "America First" policy.

The two leaders, meeting for a second time in six weeks, also announced a meeting of their foreign ministers later this year to enhance people to people exchanges, foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale told reporters after the talks. China is willing to work with India to see the Wuhan meeting as a "new starting point" and to cooperate so as to push ties in a faster and steadier manner, Xi was quoted as saying by China's state-run Xinhua news agency.

Talking about the outcome of the meeting, Gokhale said both the sides agreed to set up a new people-to-people mechanism to enhance cooperation in several areas such as art and culture. The Special Representatives on the border issue will also meet this year. The next Modi-Xi meeting would take place in South Africa in July on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, he said.

The prime minister also met Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the president of Uzbekistan and discussed ways of deepening ties between the two countries. This will be India's first participation in the summit as a full-time member of the organisation.
