Is Facebook Falling Out of Favor With Teens?

Our Social Media Accounts Are Driving Us Crazy

The Pew Research Center survey shows that 85 percent of USA teens, ages 13 to 17, use YouTube, compared with 72 percent for the Facebook-owned Instagram and 69 percent for Snapchat.

The study, published Thursday, showed that only 51 percent of surveyed kids age 13 to 17 said they use Facebook.

Instead, YouTube, Instagram and Snapchat are the top choice for teens, drawing 85 percent, 72 percent and 69 percent of respondents, respectively.

In fact, 59% of teens said they used 3 or more devices to connect online, with the remaining 41% using two. Furthermore, teens from lower income households notably gravitate towards Facebook more than those from higher-income homes, just like the former survey.

Meanwhile, only 10% of teens say Facebook is their most-used online platform.

Those numbers represent a gain by Instagram (owned by Facebook) of 19 points over three years ago, and by Snapchat of 28 points. Instagram was most often used by 15 percent.

But today just 51% of USA teens use Facebook, compared to 69% who use Snapchat and 72% who use Instagram.

Trump accuses Mueller's team of meddling in midterm elections
Whenever you get any kind of an informant anywhere near a campaign, there has to be an assurance that it was not political or partisan in nature.

Facebook shares closed up 1.2 percent Friday afternoon to $193.99. Some 45% of teens say they use the internet "almost constantly", around twice as many as the 24% who said this in 2015.

Teens do on social media what teens have been doing for a millenia...they have extremely uninteresting teen conversations that for them, mean life or death.

Snapchat, however, slightly outpaced YouTube in the "most often" used category at 35-percent versus 32-percent.

Among those that said it had a positive effect, connecting with friends and family was the most common reason why, while those that said it had a negative effect pointed to bullying and rumor spreading on the social network.

When it comes to the platform they access most frequently throughout the day, Snapchat is king.

While they use a range of devices to access online, the device of choice were smartphones and laptops.

For the longest time Facebook has been the dominant force in social media, but now among America's youth this platform is falling to the wayside. The largest bloc, 45%, said that the effect was neither positive nor negative.
