President Trump Expresses Support For Bipartisan Marijuana Fix

Senators announce bill to protect states' ability to make marijuana laws

"I support Sen. Gardner", the president said before departing for the G-7 summit in Canada, as quoted by the Los Angeles Times".

Co-sponsored by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Sen. "But I probably will end up supporting that, yes", he answered.

We knew that the Canadian Senate was set to vote on CA-45, the Cannabis Act, on June 7th, and while the measure was expected to pass, there's always a twinge of fear that something might go wrong, especially when you're fighting against decades of Reefer Madness propaganda that still plagues us today. "We're looking at it, but I probably will end up supporting that, yes".

As a candidate, Trump said marijuana legalization should be up to the states.

If Trump signs the bill into law, the legislation would resolve that conflict between the state and federal marijuana laws.

Twenty-nine states already allow medical marijuana, and nine states and the District of Columbia have legalized recreational marijuana. "They've taken action, and the law on their books should be protected".

But U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions reiterated this week that he has made no such guarantees and that the Justice Department intends to enforce federal drug laws, according to Colorado Public Radio. "He talked about his support for a state's rights approach during the campaign". On Friday, the president said his aides were reviewing similar cases that appear to have drawn "unfair" treatment from the justice system.

Pompeo: Giuliani 'doesn't speak for the administration' on North Korea
Trump said Thursday that he has stopped using the "maximum pressure" phrase because "we are going into a friendly negotiation". When asked if Kim could be invited to the US, Trump said "certainly". "I am totally prepared to walk away", he said.

Canada's Senate passed a bill Thursday legalizing recreational marijuana, moving it closer to becoming the first member of the Group of Seven nations to legalize the production, sale and consumption of the drug. But the bill would legalize the drug in states that choose to do so.

"We're trying to respect the voters of our states that said this is how we want do business around marijuana here in MA, here in Colorado".

"Our federal marijuana laws are outdated, and they're broken", Warren said at the press conference. But, he said, "We view its structure and substance as a clear signal that the broader policy trajectory is bending towards a clarification of federal cannabis policy".

"That forces a multi-billion dollar industry to operate all in cash, that's bad for business and bad for safety", said Sen.

The bill, Warren argued, is a "practical" move for marijuana reform that will "respect the voters in those states".

Gardner said federal finance laws are creating challenges for business owners in the marijuana industry, despite the state collecting the taxes without issue. The senator then spent several months in conversation with the White House, attempting to craft legislation that could win the president's support. Liszewski, though, said it might leave room for that possibility, if the states sending and receiving the product both authorized those operations.
