Rashford enjoying 'freedom' of England role

Wallace with the Sport Recife team ahead of a Copa Sudamericana clash

A spectacular strike from Marcus Rashford helped England to a 2-0 win over Costa Rica in Thursday's friendly clash at Elland Road.

It represents the Three Lions' final pre-World Cup warm-up match before the squad fly to Russian Federation on June 12.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to make his England debut in tomorrow's friendly against Costa Rica.

"We made 10 changes and maintained the momentum with what we are doing", said England boss Southgate. "That is epitomised by the three lads that have been with us on standby with their outstanding professional attitude".

Real Madrid goalkeeper Navas was completely caught out moments later, though, as Rashford unleashed a powerful drive from 25 yards for his third global goal.

In the opening half, with Manchester United forward Rashford influential in the inside-left role, England showed their pace and comfort on the ball but after the interval the game became slower and much less interesting. Tournament football is a different environment to a friendly global, but this performance in this was a huge positive ahead of the World Cup.

The game is England's first home appointment away from Wembley since May, 2016 and it will be the third time that the nation have played a fixture at Leeds United.

Bill Clinton says no private apology to Monica necessary
She said she had always considered the relationship consensual, but the #MeToo movement shifted her thinking on the subject. Former President Bill Clinton is out and about promoting a new book , and his interviews are opening some old wounds.

The games against Tunisia and Panama are very important but the last one against Belgium is going to be England's first real test.

"You work on them (goals) in training every day and when one comes up in a game it's a reward", Rashford told ITV.

Navas spread himself well to deny Jamie Vardy from close range as England threatened a quickfire second, with Jack Butland, widely-expected to be back-up to Jordan Pickford, springing into action to deny Johan Venegas.

An England team we like and are actually rooting for?

The Three Lions imposed themselves in the early stages of what was their final warm-up match ahead of the FIFA World Cup, and looked threatening on the wings. "There are a couple of places that always as a manager you are looking at who your better players are, but then form and physical condition means it always evolves, a football team is a moving, living beast".

"We could go through 11 of those on the basis of what we saw tonight - and that's critical because we won't progress on 11 players chosen in the first game".
