Shaqiri stuns Serbia to give Swiss hope

Harry Kane England Tunisia

Xhaka was born to Kosovan-Albanian parents and has a brother, Taulant, who represents the national team.

"I hope that people will take notice of us and take us seriously".

In the tournament's first come-from-behind victory, Xhaka made it 1-1 in the 52nd minute with a powerful shot through a crowded penalty area, before Shaqiri added the other in the 90th minute after running clear of the Serbian defence.

Switzerland worked their best chance of the half on 30 minutes - Blerim Dzemaili darting onto Steven Zuber's cross but wasn't able to make enough contact to beat Vladimir Stojkovic with a leaping toe poke while under pressure.

If Krstajic can mastermind a second win then the Serbs would reach the knockout stage for the first time as an independent nation.

"You should never mix politics and football", Switzerland coach Vladimir Petkovic said.

The coaches of Serbia and Switzerland only want to talk about football, not about an entrenched political dispute casting a shadow over their teams' World Cup showdown in Russian Federation.

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly "confirms" Maurizio Sarri's Chelsea arrival
The coach is known to be a master tactician and would also work well within the structure of the club's transfer policy. I hope he can win something with Chelsea .

Politicians in Switzerland and Serbia had their say, too, in the matter. "It's a wonderful atmosphere and a positive experience and that's what football should be about". "I am a man of sports, and this is what I'm going to stay being".

Aleksandar Mitrovic opened the scoring for Serbia in the fifth minute but Xhaka's superb long-range effort in the second half pulled Switzerland level.

Serbia's Luka Milivojevic may be available despite picking up a minor knock in the win over Costa Rica.

Serbia have three points in the bag after beating Costa Rica but this is a very different test for them. Mitrovic came close in the 19th minute when he controlled a cross from Branislav Ivanovic on his chest and sent a bicycle kick over the bar.

Shaqiri clipped the post with a shot as Switzerland pushed on for a victor, but it was Serbia who felt hard done by shortly afterwards when Alexsandar Mitrovic was given the Harry Kane treatment, held down by both Fabian Schar and Stephan Lichtsteiner in the box only for the referee to wave away his claims for a penalty.

Shaqiri scored a late game-winner and Swiss fans lost their minds.

The old wounds between Serbia and Albania also saw an incident in 2014 during a qualifying match for Euro 2016.
