"I have solved that problem. Now we're getting it memorialised and all but that problem is largely solved", Trump said. Don't let anyone think anything different.

Trump continued to admit that when "he speaks and his people sit up at attention. As I said in Singapore, Chairman Kim has the chance to seize an incredible future for his people", he said.

It is unclear whether the president referred to Americans broadly or executive branch staff.

"People are shocked", the president continued.

Pressed on that record, Trump demurred.

During an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, Trump again defended Kim, arguing that Kim's citizens show great "fervor" for their leader.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders eventually convinced Trump to stick to the agreed-upon date, noting that he and other officials could have more time to prepare.

"Most important of all, this means the US and North Korean leaders are in a relationship where they can talk on the phone whenever needed", a high-ranking presidential official told Yonhap News Agency on the phone, asking not to be named. The summit marked the first meeting between a US and North Korean leader in six decades of hostility and did mark a reduction in tensions from last fall, when Trump and Kim were trading insults that raised the specter of war.

There's little question that Trump went into the summit with Kim thinking that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. "That's attractive to Trump".

Trump previously admired North Korea's propaganda channel for lavishing praise on Kim.

Trump condoned violence against protesters during his campaign rallies, and as president has encouraged jailing his political opponents and perceived enemies, including former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.

"Trump has been remarkably consistent as long as he's been on the public stage in exhibiting authoritarian instincts", said Steven Levitsky, a Harvard University professor who recently co-authored a book on the subject, "How Democracies Die".

Trump, a democratically elected leader, appointed his Cabinet with the approval of the Senate.

"Our world has seen more than enough conflict". We have communication. It's a very good thing, Trump said. Asked whether or not the North Korean leader could be trusted, Kang said it was complicated.

He has labeled the dictator "talented" and "smart", saying Kim "loves his people". "I want my people to do the same".

'Fair trade now fool trade', Trump vents anger on North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies, Trudeau
He told CNN's Jake Tapper that "of course" Trump's tweets about Trudeau actually had to do with North Korea "in large part". The news conference was followed by a series of tweets by Trump, who responded by calling Trudeau "meek" and "dishonest".

One way that you can end up being killed, tortured, or thrown in prison by being insufficiently deferential to Kim is by being Christian, which is considered a rebellion against both the communist doctrine of the country and the cult of personality around Kim himself.

Trump's posture is inconsistent with Republican orthodoxy. Sen.

"But nothing will get resolved if they don't talk", she said. He inherited the family business from his dad & grandfather.

Trump challenged criticism of his vague joint statement with Kim. They told reporters they were able to confirm that the email was read, and were anxiously awaiting a reply. I got along with him great.

Winston Churchill despised communism and Josef Stalin.

"Remember World War II?"

Those who approved of the summit said the unprecedented face-to-face meeting of the two leaders itself was the best outcome of the summit. "If there's a chance at peace, if there's a chance to end the awful threat of nuclear conflict, then we must pursue it at all costs", he added.

It is no secret that Fox News is friendly to Trump, and the president frequently touts the network on social media. He said cancellation of the drills "is really a bad idea ... and (Trump) betrayed our people". "No president's ever had this". I can call him. "That sounds good. Maybe we are going to have to try it, '" he later said, recounting the outrage that followed.

Amy Zegart, director of the Center for International Security and Cooperation at Stanford University, said Trump's embrace of authoritarians "is a jagged and risky departure" in American foreign policy. "He's focused more on the optics than the policy, which is a trend we've seen throughout this presidency".

North Korea has perpetuated human rights abuses for decades.

But simply because someone told Trump - or told someone to tell Trump - what saluting any North Korean military member might mean doesn't mean that Trump listened or remembered (or cared).

Saluting a North Korean general who saluted him is totally in keeping with sending a message of respect to Kim - and keeping alive, in Trump's mind, the possibility of a deal. It is highly unusual for a USA president to return the salute of a foreign military officer. North Korean news, which is entirely state-run, exclusively consists on statements that shine a positive light on Kim and the country.

"I said, 'President for life".

I call them war games.
