Pompeo Strikes Positive Tone After North Korea Meeting in NYC

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said he plans to visit North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, North Korean state media reported on Sunday, potentially the first meeting between Kim and another head of state in Pyongyang.

Asked Friday whether he thinks that Kim believes in denuclearization, Trump said "he'd like to see it happen".

The ongoing negotiations give USA officials the opportunity to rebalance any future summit agenda to include not only the security threat that North Korea poses to the United States and our allies in Southeast Asia, but also the regime's human rights record. Outside the White House today, Trump told reporters he believes the summit will launch a new relationship between the United States and North Korea.

Whilst all this was happening, North Korea and Russian Federation have agreed to meeting of their top leaders to mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Trump also said his efforts are being helped by China and involve South Korea and Japan.

"Obviously if the diplomats can do their work, if we can reduce the threat, if we can restore confidence-building measures with something verifiable, then of course these kinds of issues can come up subsequently between two sovereign states (South Korea and the US)", said the Pentagon chief.

Trump's meeting with Kim Jong Un would be the first between a USA president and a North Korean leader since the division of the Korean Peninsula after an armistice was signed in July, 1953, following a civil war.

Such are the stakes in President Donald Trump's quest for nuclear talks with North Korea that the fate of the world seemed to rest on the contents of a single, sealed envelope.

"We'll see and hopefully we'll have a meeting on the 12th, that's going along very well but I want it to be meaningful", the president said before boarding Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews.

President Donald Trump announced on Friday that his summit with Kim Jong Un is back on.

She reposted a tweet by Sara Gilbert, the actress who played her daughter, Darlene, on the show and served as executive producer. Trump wrote that CEO Bob Iger never call him to apologize for "the disgusting statements" that have been said about him on ABC".

"There's got to be a balance here between "get-to-know" and a detailed blueprint" for moving forward, said Aaron David Miller, a former negotiator for USA secretaries of State from both parties.

USA officials now expect the summit to go ahead, but they want North Korea to accept that nuclear disarmament be at the heart of the discussion - and warn that there can be no end to trade sanctions without it.

The summit will still take place on June 12 in the Southeast Asian island nation of Singapore, now only a week and a half away.

Meanwhile, North and South Korean officials are working to increase communication between the two countries and improve their relations.

Moreover, South Koreans' attitude toward Kim is likely to change based on the progress of inter-Korean talks and the result of a potential summit between North Korea and the United States, according to the analysis.

Kim Yong-chol is a close aide of Kim Jong-un and is vice chairman of the ruling Workers Party's central committee.

Trump was meeting in the Oval Office with Kim's envoy, Kim Yong Chol, a former spy chief and now the country's top nuclear negotiator.

The spokesman said the top office will excitedly, but calmly, look forward to the historic meeting in Singapore. He is the most senior North Korean to visit the White House in 18 years, a highly symbolic sign of easing tensions after fears of war escalated amid North Korean nuclear and missile tests last year. "It went very well", the president told reporters following the letter-delivery.

"Good working dinner with Kim Yong Chol in NY tonight", Pompeo tweeted.
