Yoga acts as a bridge between India and China: Bambawale

Prime Minister Narendra Modi performs yoga along with thousands of enthusiasts to mark International Day of Yoga in Dehradun

A Joint Statement issued during the visit of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to Oman in February, 2018 had acknowledged the lead taken by the Government of India in celebrating the International Day of Yoga worldwide with a view to popularise yuoga, which is an ancient Indian tradition, among the people all over the world.

For the fourth time in a row, the Prime Minister's Office has once again denied appointment to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Many Union ministers will join similar events across the country on Thursday. Thanks to the efforts of Nouf Marwaai, yoga has been popularized here.

Troops guarding the world's highest battleground on the Siachen glacier, in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, did yoga routines at an altitude of around 18,000 feet (5,486 m). "Yoga is exactly doing that", he said. "I hope that Yoga can become binding force for the world", he said. The Yoga trainer from the "Art of living" organisation, Ashish Chhabra, addressing the public at the police lines said, "Yoga is an age-old method for staying fit both physically and mentally".

Yoga was also performed on board the Japanese naval ship JS Ise and on the Indian Navy's INS Sahyadri taking part in military exercises in the western Pacific, the Indian Navy said.

"Designed to help individuals build self-realisation, ease any suffering they may be experiencing and allow for a state of liberation, (yoga) is practised by the young and old without discriminating against gender, class or religion", UNESCO added in a tweet.

Egypt pay heavy price for errors and lack of Salah factor
Meanwhile, Egypt is coming off a 1-0 loss to Uruguay after finishing atop its group in qualifying with a 4-1-1 record. Egypt lost Tuesday for the second time of the tournament when it fell 3-1 to host Russian Federation .

Oman was also one of the co-sponsors of the Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly which had declared in December 2014, at the initiative of Prime Minister of India, June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.

Artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a special sand sculpture with the message "Yoga for Peace and Harmony" on a beach in the eastern city of Puri.

Yoga has boomed in recent decades, with millions practising it regularly, although in the West it is often more of a gymnastic than a spiritual activity.

The choice of June 21 was by no means a coincidence. People across the country celebrated the day with mass yoga performances.
