Apple and Blackmagic Teamed Up on an External GPU for MacBook Pros

MacBook Pro 2018

Apple on Thursday announced a refresh of its MacBook Pro, making it the "most advanced Mac notebook ever".

The new MacBook Pro also gains improved graphics processors. Apple doesn't specifically say whether the new generation of "butterfly" keyboards solves that annoying problem, which prompted Apple to announce a free fix program last month, but it does claim they are much quieter.

The computers also contain Apple designed T2 chips that had been introduced on the iMac Pro desktop.

Apple's MacBook Pros have always been the most powerful and - to be sure - most expensive laptops in the company's lineup. The new models feature faster 8th-generation Intel processors with six cores in the 15-inch model and four cores in the 13-inch model. Most notably, Apple has not fully changed the design of the laptops' keyboards, which have drawn serious complaints from consumers who find them unreliable.

The Retina display on MacBook Pro is now the best Mac notebook display ever. That means now's the time to pick up a 2015 MacBook Pro if you're a stickler for all things that the prosumer MacBook used to be. The 13-inch starts at $1,799 while the 15-inch mode begins at $2,399. And, if you want the highest spec version of the 15-inch model available, it'll wind up costing you $6,699. The 13-inch model will be powered with quad-core Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, which will make it twice as fast as the outgoing model.

The 2015 MacBook Pro was a fan favorite over the last few years.

Apart from performance enhancement, Apple has also fitted Pro models with True Tone technology which offers more natural viewing experience owing to sensors.

Nonetheless, more than the price bump, prosumers are finally going to be happy that they at least have a choice.

Prices start at $2,399 for the MBP 15 and the new computers are available for ordering through the online Apple Store and from physical Apple Stores this week.

For the 15-inch MacBook Pro, the maximum RAM has been doubled to 32 GB from 16 GB, while also moving to DDR4 from DDR3.
