Page plans to defy GOP subpoena, lawyer says

Peter Strzok and Lisa Page

An FBI official will testify Thursday before two House committees investigating allegations of bias in the agency against President Donald Trump.

Lisa Page, the former Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer who exchanged anti-Trump text messages with Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Peter Strzok, has been subpoenaed for a closed-door interview this week with the House Judiciary and Oversight committees, according to two congressional sources.

The two agents, who were having an extra marital affair, were members of special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation, which Trump routinely refers to as a 'witch hunt, ' and examining both Russia's role in the 2016 election along with being part of probe into Hillary Clinton's email server.

Mueller, a Republican, removed Strzok from the inquiry when he learned about the text exchanges and Page has left the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Strzok will testify Thursday before a joint hearing of the House Judiciary and House Oversight and Government Reform committees, one week after appearing before the panels behind closed doors.

Aiming to discredit the probe, Trump and supporters in Congress have charged that Mueller's team is stacked with Democrats and that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been opposed to him.

'I am on Air Force One flying to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and hear reports that the Federal Bureau of Investigation lovers, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page are getting cold feet on testifying about the Rigged Witch Hunt headed by 13 Angry Democrats and people that worked for Obama for 8 years.

"It appears that Lisa Page has something to hide", he said in a statement.

"She was a part of the mess that we have uncovered over at DOJ".

Attorney Amy Jeffress told Fox News that Page would not appear on Capitol Hill on Wednesday because they did not have enough time to prepare. "We expect them to agree to another date so that Lisa can appear before the committees in the near future", Jeffress said in the statement.

Trump still pondering Supreme Court pick as big reveal nears
Richard Blumenthal, Democratic senator from CT , told ABC's This Week that it posed a fundamental threat to abortion rights. Leo said, however, that ultimately Trump would succeed at lining up conservative support for anyone he selected.

"It appears that Lisa Page has something to hide", he said.

The two committees' "bullying tactics here are unnecessary", she added.

"Ex-FBI LAYER Lisa Page today defied a House of Representatives issued Subpoena to testify before Congress!"

A report by the Justice Department's internal watchdog released last month detailed the texts between the two, including an exchange in which Strzok said, "we'll stop it", in reference to a potential Trump election win.

"Americans across the country are alarmed at the bias exhibited by top officials at the Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation, and it is imperative Congress conduct vigorous oversight to ensure that never happens again". President Trump continued in a subsequent tweet.

Page and Strzok tried to explain their texts away, saying their views didn't affect their work.

Most recently, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein fended off such accusations from top Republican Reps.

The committees have focused much of their ire on Strzok, who was interviewed privately by lawmakers on the two committees for 11 hours last month.

House Republicans have engaged in a war of words and threats against the Justice Department for withholding information about the Trump-Russia investigation.
