Stormy Daniels: charges over strip club performance in OH dropped, lawyer says

US: Adult film star, who claimed to have had affair with Donald Trump, arrested

Daniels was released on $6,000 bond, but has been hit with three charges related to an obscure 2007 law that was spearheaded by conservatives and meant to restrict sexual activity and limit strip club operating hours.

Police alleged Daniels pressed her breasts into the face of a patron who turned out to be an undercover officer and also fondled two other patrons, landing her in jail for violating an OH law that prohibits an employee who regularly appears nude or seminude from touching patrons on the premises of a sexually oriented business.

A 2007 OH law states that an employee who regularly appears nude or seminude at a sexually oriented business is not allowed to touch anyone not related to them while nude or seminude. Daniels reportedly did the same with a male detective as well, the report states.

The Columbus Dispatch reported previous year that the 2007 law, introduced by a conservative religious group, was seldom enforced. Because Daniels does not regularly appear at the club, the charges were dismissed, according to court documents. Offenders can face up to six months in jail and a fine.

Daniels later filed lawsuits against both Cohen and Trump for defamation.

She was originally charged on three counts of illegally touching a patron.

DailyMail.com have contacted the Columbus Police Department for comment. The law also features a stipulation that exempts the touching of "family members".

Daniels was arrested at a club in Columbus, Ohio while performing an act she has done at almost 100 strip clubs across America, Michael Avenatti wrote on Twitter.

Asked if Daniels' arrest could impact her legal wrangling with Cohen, Avenatti said "not at all". According to a police report, authorities accused her of touching "a specified anatomical area" of individuals who were present at the performance, including police officers.

The high-powered attorney claims the arrest was "part of a sting" based on a "puritan law" that says there is absolutely no touching in strip clubs in Columbus. Avenatti called the arrest a "complete set up" in an interview with the Associated Press.

Daniels canceled her Thursday night performance in Columbus because of the charges. "I've been in touch with prosecutors this morning".

"This was a setup & politically motivated". He conceded that Stormy did allow herself to be touched, but it was in a "non-sexual manner".

"As a result of what happened last night, I will unfortunately be unable to go forward with tonight's scheduled performance", Daniels said in a statement through Avenatti on Twitter.

"This is ridiculous that law enforcement resources were used to conduct this sting operation", he said. "There has to be higher priorities".
