Russia to deploy military police on Occupied Golan Heights

Israeli aircraft fired at ‘terror operatives’ in the southern Syrian Golan Heights – IDF

Israel has sought to avoid direct involvement in the Syrian conflict but acknowledges carrying out dozens of air strikes there to stop what it says are deliveries of advanced weaponry to its Lebanese enemy Hezbollah and other Iran-backed forces. The military described it as a "triangle area" near the borders of Israel, Syria and Jordan in the occupied Golan Heights.

Following the May 10 attack, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said that the IDF had destroyed "almost all of Iran's military infrastructure sites in Syria".

As tensions peaked last week, Israel shot down a Syrian warplane that it said had strayed into the Israeli-occupied Golan region and warned Assad's Iranian and Lebanese Hizbollah reinforcements against trying to deploy on the Syrian-held side.

But they entered a downward spiral in recent times when Israel intensified its bombing of military infrastructure in Syria.

The area, peaceful for decades since the agreement, became a fighting ground at the height of the Syrian civil war, finally pushing the United Nations peacekeeping force out in 2014 after al-Qaida militants kidnapped 45 United Nations peacekeepers.

During their summit in Helsinki, Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump said they were exploring ways to protect Israel from the war in Syria.

U.S. Hits Turkey With Sanctions Over Jailed Pastor
Last week, Brunson was allowed to leave prison and remain under house arrest , but his request to leave Turkey was denied. He is also charged with ties to the movement of US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen whom Erdogan blames for the failed coup.

Israel has been lobbying the Kremlin to use its influence with Assad, and with Tehran, to try to get the Iranian military presence in Syria scaled back.

An Israeli airstrike killed armed Islamic State operatives in the Syrian Golan Heights.

Also on Thursday morning, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cancelled a trip to Colombia scheduled for next week to attend the inauguration of the country's new president, Iván Duque, due to the volatile situation on Israel's borders.

The Jordanian Army reported much the same on their border with Syria.

"From our perspective, the situation is returning to how it was before the civil war, meaning there is a real address, someone responsible and central rule", Lieberman told reporters during a tour of air defence units in northern Israel.
