The US banned 3D printed guns just in the nick of time

Nine states are suing the Trump administration to stop 3D-printed guns

However, according to the Associated Press, around 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, a Federal judged issued a temporary restraining order to stop the release of the blueprints online.

The company behind the plans, the Texas-based Defense Distributed, had reached a settlement with the federal government in June that allows it to make the plans for the guns available for download on Wednesday.

With more than 4,500 downloads as of Tuesday afternoon, the most popular blueprint on the site appeared to be for "the Liberator", a single-shot.380-caliber handgun made nearly entirely of 3D-printed plastic.

"This is something that is risky to public safety, to have these firearms out there that are untraceable that perhaps could go past metal detectors in airports", said Rebecca Gonzales, co-chair of the Sacramento chapter of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

He was celebrating a temporary restraining order by a federal court preventing the company Defense Distributed from posting downloadable codes to 3D-print guns on its website.

Many re-posted them on torrent websites to download software, video and now plastic gun templates for free the scary part is they work. But, yeah, then in April, there was kind of this surprise settlement between the State Department and Defense Distributed, the company that's distributing these online plans, and the State Department agreed to kind of carve out an exception for the company.

Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal said if Trump fails to act, "blood is going to be on his hands".

Imagine being able to make a gun in your home with a 3D printer. The US Supreme Court had declined to take up his case.

Mr Wilson, a law school dropout, contends that the US Constitution's Second Amendment, which guarantees the right to bear arms, should extend to a person's right to make their own guns.

However, the State Department said similar plans have been online for years.

"I am looking into 3-D Plastic Guns being sold to the public", he said.

In a written statement, New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood, one of plaintiffs, called the ruling "a major victory for common sense and public safety".

Cody Wilson, the founder of Defense Distributed, first published downloadable designs for a 3D-printed firearm in 2013. He understands concerns about the guns' ability to be detected, but laws already make it illegal for people to possess undetectable guns.

Senators added their voices later in the day, urging the president to reverse the settlement decision.

More than 225 years after the weapon-equipped act was ratified, a US federal judge has temporarily blocked the release of software that allows people to 3D-print firearms. Wilson sued the administration to allow him to re-upload the plans, but several courts ruled in the government's favour and it looked like the whole thing was over.

The National Rifle Association said that undetectable plastic guns are already illegal.
