Trump has 'no problem' with a government shutdown

I would be willing to shut down government over immigration plans – Donald Trump

Congressional Republicans, already facing a hard election landscape, confronted a prospect on Sunday they had worked feverishly to avoid: a threat by President Trump to shut down the government over funding for a border wall.

Over the past few days, President Trump has been threatening a government shutdown related to immigration policy, warning Democrats that he'd allow the impasse to occur if they refused to fund his border wall.

"We are always leave room for negotiations", he said.

"Trump's border wall does nothing to promote San Diego's robust economy and our positive global ties with Mexico", Council President Pro Tem Barbara Bry, a Democrat, said in a statement.

The blacklisting of the border-wall builders is just one prong in California Democrats' Trump resistance movement.

On Capitol Hill, McConnell and other Senate Republican leaders told reporters Tuesday afternoon that they are sticking to their plan to approve nine of the dozen spending bills on Congress's plate by the end of August, putting them on track to have 90 percent of the government funded by the end of the fiscal year as long as Trump signs those bills into law. Trump said on Twitter. Trump tweeted. "Must get rid of Lottery, Catch & Release etc. and finally go to system of Immigration based on MERIT!"

With President Donald Trump already under fire for taking thousands of migrant children from their detained parents - and botching the reunification of many - the request for the investigation elevated yet another issue to the administration's list of immigration headaches.

Despite Trump's threat, some Republican lawmakers doubted the government would be forced to shut down.

"It's time we had proper border security, we're the laughing stock of the world", he said during a joint press conference with Italy's Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Monday.

Manchester United could do with less of Jose Mourinho's negative attitude
If it's possible, it's good, if not then we keep fighting and working and believing in the players that we have". This is not even 30 percent of my squad, so don't look to this that way.

Coulter called Trump's wall promise a "secret weapon", if he would just go full force in deploying it.

"There's a reason ... we wanted the wall and that is so that all of us don't have to be on constant, constant alert for the next wave of illegal, poverty-stricken, very needy, uneducated immigrants pouring across our border". One possibility under discussion is coupling more modest immigration law changes with some of the near-term spending bills needed to keep the government running, to show some progress on the issue.

Both last year and this year, Trump said he would shut down the government if Democrats didn't agree to fund construction of the wall.

The majority Democratic San Diego City Council, in a 3 to 1 vote last week, directed city officials to draft an ordinance requiring contractors competing for city projects to disclose any past and present work, as well as planned bids, on parts of Trump's planned border wall.

Johnson added that he didn't think a shutdown would be "helpful" to Republicans in the November elections, "so let's try and avoid it".

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) downplayed the potential for a government shutdown, which would take place October 1, the end of the fiscal year and just weeks before the midterm elections.

House Republicans released a spending bill this month that provides $5 billion next year to build Trump's wall.

"These allegations of abuse are extremely disturbing and must be addressed", Grassley and Feinstein wrote in a letter to the departments of Homeland Security and Health and Human Services. 'You know, I think we're going to make sure we keep the government open, but we're going to get better policies on immigration'. The higher amount matches what Trump has privately sought in conversations with Republican lawmakers.

"I want to dispel the myth that prosecuting illegal border crossings or separating adults from children in custody is unique to zero-tolerance or to this administration", said Carla Provost, the acting chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, during her testimony before the Senate panel.
