Trump repeats threat: 'I would have no problem doing a shutdown'

Trump threatens to ‘shut down’ government if Dems don’t support border measures

The judge overseeing the chaos from President Trump's zero-tolerance border policy gave the government good marks for its efforts to reunify families, saying that for the parents the government has control over "that process has been completed". Government funding is now set to expire at the end of the day on September 30, leaving lawmakers just 11 legislative days to negotiate an agreement.

"If we don't get border security after many, many years of talk within the United States, I would have no problem doing a shutdown", Trump said during a joint news conference at the White House alongside Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.

"Must get rid of Lottery, Catch and Release etc. and finally go to system of Immigration based on MERIT!"

Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell said on Friday that funding for the wall would "probably" wait until after the midterm elections.

In the Kentucky radio interview, McConnell did acknowledge that the border funding issue probably wouldn't be resolved until later this year, after the November election. He added that money for the wall was "not a question of if, it's a question of when". President Trump ultimately signed Congress' spending bill into law the following month - albeit begrudgingly. The Republican chairman and top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee want federal investigators to examine charges that immigrants have suffered sexual, physical and emotional abuse at two government agencies‚à "ô detention centers".

President Donald Trump says that he is willing to shut down the government over funding for his long-promised border wall but that he'll "always leave room for negotiation".

Fulham Sign Loan-Star Striker Aleksandar Mitrovic In £22m Permanent Deal
Mitrovic joined Newcastle from Anderlecht in the summer of 2015 for £14.5 million and has scored 17 goals in 72 appearances. Fulham are in advanced talks with the defender after the two clubs agreed on a fee in the region of £25m.

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said shutdowns represent "a failure to govern effectively".

A House Republican aide said there's no chance of a September shutdown although one in December is possible if Trump follows through with his threat. Numerous children have been accused by immigration officials of belonging to MS-13 and other violent gangs, an activity Trump has used to justify his "zero tolerance" policy of prosecuting immigrants caught entering the country without permission. And with the House out on August recess, there's not much time left before the deadline that both chambers will be in session.

Earlier, Donald had threatened to shut down the government after his priorities in congressional spending bills was sidelined.

In a 3-1 vote, San Diego City Council, which is a Democratic majority, called for a draft that will require contractors to disclose any work, as well as planned bids, that relate to the border wall. "You know, I think we're going to make sure we keep the government open, but we're going to get better policies on immigration". Back in February, Trump said that he'd "love to see a shutdown" if the government did not address border security. They have the strength to derail legislation in the closely divided Senate. The House version of the bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security would set aside $5 billion for all border security.

At the White House meeting, Trump, Ryan and McConnell agreed that Congress is on track to enact more than half of federal spending before the new budget year begins October 1, but that DHS funding, including the border wall money, doesn't have to be settled before then, according to a person familiar with the meeting who was not authorized to discuss it publicly and insisted on condition of anonymity.
