Trump says collusion not a crime as Russian Federation probe trial begins

Trump urges Mueller to admit conflict of interest in pending investigation

14 months since Special Counsel Robert Mueller began his probe into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. Presidential Elections that would also look at possible collusion between Trump's campaign team with Russians, President Donald Trump is parroting a new line of defence.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley on Monday rejected Democratic calls for the committee to bring Donald Trump Jr. back to testify again about the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting following Michael Cohen's claims that Trump Jr. told his father about the meeting in advance.

"I've been sitting here looking at the federal code trying to find collusion as a crime", he began the interview with encouragement from host Steve Doocy.

In April, authorities raided Cohen's home, office and hotel room as part of an investigation into his business dealings and efforts during the 2016 campaign to suppress negative stories about Trump. The president himself picked up on the theme, tweeting: "Collusion is not a crime, but that doesn't matter because there was No Collusion (except by Crooked Hillary and the Democrats)!" "Therefore, the witch hunt is an illegal scam", Mr Trump said.

Though Trump and Giuliani have denied any sort of cooperation with Russian hackers, the president's attorney said collusion might not be a crime. And in his own testimony before the House Intelligence Committee a year ago, Cohen did not say that Trump had advanced knowledge of the meeting, CNN has reported. A spokesman for Mueller told The Washington Post that there was no dispute when Mueller left the club. The special counsel's spokesperson declined to comment in response to ABC News' questions regarding the president's allegations.

Trump, in his tweets on Sunday, re-aired his incorrect assertion that the dossier of anti-Trump research compiled by former MI6 official Christopher Steele sparked the Russian Federation investigation.

The Cupertino, California-based technology giant expects fiscal fourth-quarter revenue between US$60 billion and US$62 billion. While the rest of the tech industry's earnings are in a slump, Apple just posted its biggest Q3 earnings report ever.

In a memo released in February, The House Republicans had confirmed that the probe was launched following the information from Papadopoulos, who has been found guilty of furnishing wrong information to the FBI and is assisting with the Mueller investigation.

The president said he turned Mr. Mueller down to head the Federal Bureau of Investigation following the firing of former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey past year.

Giuliani also sent a message to Mueller: It's time for the special counsel to "put up or shut up".

An element of Mueller's investigation includes whether Trump or anyone in the campaign tried to obstruct justice.

Also on Sunday, Trump tweeted a threat to shut down the government if Congress did not provide money for his proposed border wall with Mexico and railed against the news media.
