Trump says Koch brothers are a "total joke"

Trump Calls the Koch Brothers

The decision was a warning shot to fellow Republicans that they should do more to elect candidates who challenge government spending.

At a gathering of the Koch-backed Seminar Network over the weekend in Colorado Springs, its co-chairman Brian Hooks lamented the "tremendous lack of leadership" in Washington.

In a statement responding to Trump, Koch network spokesman James Davis said the group supports "policies that help all people improve their lives".

Heidi Heitkamp in November, is "inconsistent across the board" on the spending and trade issues that matter to the Koch network, said Tim Phillips, president of its grassroots arm, Americans for Prosperity (AFP).

President Donald Trump launched a searing Twitter attack Tuesday against the billionaire donor Koch brothers amid the group's renewed public relations push in opposition to the president's trade war. They love my Tax & Regulation Cuts, Judicial picks & more.

But they have also pushed for criminal justice reform and made large donations to the American Civil Liberties Union. Among other things, they realized a few years ago that if they could build a grass-roots network, it would generate higher and longer-lasting political returns than just airing a bunch of ads right before every election.

"I'm for America First & the American Worker - a puppet for no one. Make America Great Again!" he tweeted.

But McDaniel insisted that the "energy of the Republican Party" is "solidly behind the president" and his conservative populist agenda.

Anxious Zimbabwe awaits presidential results as European Union mission notes election flaws
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission is by law given up to five days to release the results. It alleges that the governing Zanu-PF party has rigged Monday's elections.

Trump has effectively taken over the modern-day Republican Party on nearly every level, even after ignoring long-held conservative beliefs on government spending, free trade and foreign policy.

Charles Koch (L) and David Koch are seen in this combination picture.

Her Senate seat, along with those in West Virginia, Indiana, Montana and Missouri, are critical given the Republicans' narrowly 51-49 hold on the chamber. In order to keep everyone in line, they've decided to make some mostly symbolic gestures toward supporting a Democrat here or there, like taking out a web ad thanking Democratic senator Heidi Heitkamp for voting for a bill to deregulate banks.

Charles Koch oversees Wichita-based Koch Industries.

Charles Koch also suggested in a rare interview that his groups may spend less backing the GOP in the future, and expressed regret over their support of certain candidates in the past. The Trump White House budget office now predicts next year's federal deficit will exceed $1tn, reaching $8tn over the next 10 years. Despite the brothers' financial support for countless Republican candidates, they are self-proclaimed libertarians.

Some Trump loyalists were furious even before Monday's news.

Withholding support for Cramer could be a fairly low-stakes political move for the network. We do the ground game because we're not going to equivocate on who we're going to support.
