United Approach Atletico Over Signing Of Diego Godin

No Old Trafford move for Godin

Manchester United have made an offer to sign Diego Godin, according to Sky Sports. The Red Devils have been scouring the market for a new defensive addition, but so far have failed to make any progress in their pursuit.

United were hopeful that they could have persuaded Godin to sign and join his new teammates in time for the Red Devils' Premier League season opener against Leicester on Friday night but they will have to return to the drawing board now.

Godin is into the final year of his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano, but Atletico are not actively looking to cash in and will therefore play hardball.

United, as their defensive signing options were drying up, made a late attempt to sign the Uruguay worldwide. It is understood that the defender is likely to sign a new contract with Los Rojiblancos instead.

Salah's driving run across the box teed the striker up for a shot which found the top corner via a deflection. His squad looks deep, sharp and impressive five days ahead of a league season carrying high expectation.

The 32-year-old has been one of the best central defenders in world football since joining Atletico from Villarreal in 2010 and he was once again a star performer for Uruguay at the World Cup this summer.

There is no word yet as to whether or not the Manchester club have made an official bid for the defender. However, the 121-time capped Uruguayan global feels settled in the Spanish capital and enjoys an excellent relationship with his current boss Simeone, which has led to him rejecting the English giants' overtures.

Leicester's Harry Maguire, Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld and Barcelona's Yerry Mina are among the names that have been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, but manager Jose Mourinho confirmed he was not expecting any arrivals in the final hours of the transfer deadline.
